N. M. Browne is a British author of young adult fiction born in 1960 in Burnley, Lancashire. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing and has taught creative writing through Oxford University's continuing education program; her early work appeared under the name Nicola Matthews. She is best known for a trilogy following two modern teenagers pulled into an Iron Age Britain, comprising Warriors of Alavna (2000), Warriors of Camlann (2003), and Warriors of Ethandun (2009). Warriors of Alavna was runner-up for the Lancashire Book of the Year, and her novels Basilisk and Shadow Web each received Carnegie Medal nominations. Her other books include Hunted (2002), Wolf Blood (2011), and The Story of Stone (2005).
