Nicholas Belardes is an American author born in 1968 in San Jose, California, whose fiction explores the Chicano experience, the American West, and the natural world under ecological strain. He first drew attention in 2008 with Small Places, an early example of a novel composed and serialized on Twitter. He returned to long-form fiction with The Deading (2024), an eco-horror novel that drew strong reviews for its blend of social critique and dread, and Ten Sleep, a supernatural modern-day Western following a group of young people on a cattle drive through a canyon haunted by creatures older than humankind. He continues to write fiction addressing environmental catastrophe and is represented by the Jud Laghi Agency.
