Nicki Pau Preto is a Canadian author of young adult fantasy. She debuted with the Crown of Feathers trilogy (Crown of Feathers, Wings of Shadow, Heart of Flames), an epic centered on rival sisters and phoenix-riding warriors fighting over a fractured empire. She followed it with the House of the Dead duology, opening with Bonesmith, a story of necromancers and monster hunters bound by an uneasy alliance; the novel won the Canadian Children's Book Centre's 2024 Arlene Barlin Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy, and Pau Preto continued the story in Ghostsmith. She has also written The Last Hope School for Magical Delinquents, a lighter fantasy following troublemaking students at a school for wayward young witches and wizards.
