Nina Kiriki Hoffman is an American writer of fantasy, science fiction, and horror, born in San Gabriel, California, in 1955. She has published more than 200 short stories since her national debut in Asimov's Science Fiction in 1983, and won the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future award for her story "A Step into Darkness." Her novels include A Fistful of Sky and The Thread That Binds the Bones, part of a loosely connected sequence of contemporary fantasies about families with hidden magical gifts, including A Stir of Bones. Several of her novellas and stories, including "Unmasking" and "Haunted Humans," have been finalists for the World Fantasy and Nebula Awards. Hoffman was a Writer Guest of Honor at the 1996 World Horror Convention and remains one of the field's most prolific short-fiction writers.
