Pat Murphy

Pat Murphy is an American science-fiction and fantasy writer born in 1955 in Spokane, Washington. Her novel The Falling Woman won the Nebula Award for Best Novel, and her novelette "Rachel in Love" won the Nebula for Best Novelette; she has also received a Philip K. Dick Award for the collection Points of Departure, a World Fantasy Award for the novella "Bones," and a Christopher Award for Nadya: The Wolf Chronicles. With Karen Joy Fowler, she co-founded the James Tiptree Jr. Award (now the Otherwise Award), honoring science fiction and fantasy that explores gender. Murphy worked for more than two decades at San Francisco's Exploratorium science museum, and her fiction, including The City, Not Long After, often combines speculative premises with a strong interest in art, myth, and community.
