Patricia Bernard

Patricia Bernard is an Australian author, born in 1942 in Melbourne, who has published more than seventy books across fiction, non-fiction, and picture books. She began under the pen name Judy Bernard-Waite, co-writing the Trumpalar fantasy books with Judy Nunn and Fiona Waite, before publishing her first solo novel, We Are Tam, in 1983. Her Outcast Trilogy, including The Outcast (1997), a speculative story shortlisted for the Aurealis Award, and The Punisher (1997), marked a turn toward young-adult speculative fiction after years of varied output. Bernard has also written extensively for younger children, and her career has been noted for its unusually wide-ranging travel, including reportedly being the first New South Wales resident granted a visa to Cuba.
