Patrick Carman is an American children's and young-adult author born in 1966 in Salem, Oregon, and a graduate of Willamette University. His breakthrough came with The Dark Hills Divide (2005), the first book in the New York Times-bestselling Land of Elyon fantasy series, which has been translated into more than twenty languages. He went on to write the Atherton trilogy, the multimedia mystery series Skeleton Creek -- which incorporates video segments into the reading experience -- and the Floors, Pulse, and Dark Eden series. Beyond writing, Carman is a frequent public speaker on literacy and reading engagement, having addressed more than a million students and spoken at the 2011 TED Conference.
