Paul Witcover is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy, born in 1958 in Zurich, Switzerland. His 1997 novel Waking Beauty received an Otherwise Award (formerly the Tiptree Award) honor for speculative fiction that explores gender. He also wrote the earlier novel Tumbling After, and the historical fantasy The Emperor of All Things (2013). Witcover contributed to Tremontaine, the serialized prequel to Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint produced as a shared-world collaborative fiction project alongside authors including Malinda Lo, Joel Derfner, and Racheline Maltese, and has written media tie-in fiction including Dracula: Asylum. His short fiction and criticism have appeared widely across genre magazines and anthologies.
