Paula Volsky

Paula Volsky is an American fantasy author born in Fanwood, New Jersey, holding a B.A. in English literature from Vassar College and an M.A. in Shakespearean studies from the University of Birmingham. Her novels, including The Curse of the Witch-Queen, the Sorcerer trilogy, The Wolf of Winter, The Gates of Twilight, and The Grand Ellipse, all take place within a single shared fictional universe and frequently rework real historical events -- revolutions, wars, and court intrigues -- into secondary-world fantasy. Critic Terri Windling called her "a reliably entertaining storyteller." After publishing steadily from the early 1980s through 2000, Volsky returned a decade later with The Veiled Isles trilogy, published under the pen name Paula Brandon, continuing the same alternate-historical approach that defined her earlier work.
