Phyllis Gotlieb

Phyllis Gotlieb (1926-2009) was a Canadian science-fiction writer and poet, born Phyllis Fay Bloom in Toronto and educated in literature at the University of Toronto. Her 1964 novel Sunburst is considered a landmark of early Canadian science fiction, and Canada's Sunburst Award for speculative fiction was later named in its honor. She went on to write the Starcats sequence, including A Judgment of Dragons, for which she won the Aurora Award for Best Novel in 1982, and the linked Flesh and Gold and O Master Caliban! novels. Alongside her fiction, Gotlieb published several volumes of poetry and is widely regarded as one of the founding figures of Canadian science fiction.
