Rachel Pollack

Rachel Pollack (1945-2023) was an American writer born in Brooklyn, New York, known for science fiction, comics, and scholarship on the tarot. Her novel Unquenchable Fire won the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 1989, and Godmother Night won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 1997. She also wrote DC Comics' Doom Patrol from 1993 to 1995, introducing Coagula, one of the first transgender superheroes in mainstream comics. A pioneering transgender activist and widely respected tarot scholar, Pollack taught creative writing at Goddard College for many years.
