Ransom Riggs (born 1979) is an American writer known for blending narrative fiction with found vintage photography. After studying English literature at Kenyon College and earning an MFA in film from the University of Southern California, he wrote a tie-in guide to a Sherlock Holmes film before developing a collection of strange antique photographs into his debut novel. He is best known for the Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series, beginning with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2011), a New York Times bestseller about a hidden community of children with supernatural abilities living in a time loop; the book was adapted into a 2016 film directed by Tim Burton. Riggs continued the series across several sequels and companion volumes and began the Sunderworld series in 2024. He is married to author Tahereh Mafi.
