Rebecca Roanhorse

Rebecca Roanhorse is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy, born in 1971 and raised in northern Texas; she is of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo and African American descent. She holds degrees from Yale University, Union Theological Seminary, and the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she specialized in federal Indian law, and worked as a computer programmer and as a clerk for the Navajo Nation Supreme Court before turning to fiction. Her work draws heavily on Indigenous history and myth, from the post-apocalyptic Dinetah of the Sixth World novels (beginning with Trail of Lightning) to the pre-Columbian-inspired Between Earth and Sky trilogy (Black Sun, Fevered Star, Mirrored Heavens). She has also written for the Star Wars universe. Roanhorse won the Hugo and Nebula Awards for her short story "Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience," the Campbell Award for Best New Writer, and a further Hugo for Best Series.
