Richard Dalby

Richard Dalby (1949-2017) was a British editor, bookseller and literary researcher who became one of the leading anthologists of ghost and supernatural fiction in the English language. Working from his home in Scarborough, Yorkshire, he compiled more than fifty anthologies from the 1970s onward, drawing on a personal library so extensive he kept it in a rented storage unit. He specialized in reviving forgotten Victorian and Edwardian writers of the uncanny alongside contemporary authors, and edited long-running series such as the Mammoth Book of Ghost Stories volumes and the Virago Book of Ghost Stories. In 1993 he co-founded the small press Ghost Story Press. He also wrote extensively on Arthur Conan Doyle and Bram Stoker bibliography, and for two decades contributed articles to Book and Magazine Collector magazine.
