Robert Conroy (1938-2014) was an American author of alternate history novels. Trained as a business and economic historian, he taught at Macomb Community College in Michigan before retiring early to write fiction full time. His research into Imperial German plans to invade the United States under Kaiser Wilhelm II led to his 1995 debut, 1901, and he went on to build a long shelf of speculative what-if novels imagining different outcomes for American wars, including 1862, 1945, Rising Sun, Himmler's War, and Germanica. His novel 1942 won the Sidewise Award for Alternate History. Conroy's final book, Storm Front, published shortly after his death, was his only novel not built around an alternate-history premise.
