Robert P. Mills

Robert P. Mills (1920-1986) was an American magazine editor and literary agent central to the mid-century crime and science fiction publishing world. He served as managing editor of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine from 1948 and of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction from its 1949 founding, becoming its editor in 1958 after Anthony Boucher's resignation; under his editorship F&SF won three Hugo Awards for Best Magazine. He also edited Venture Science Fiction Magazine and Bestseller Mystery Magazine, and compiled several "Best of" anthologies drawn from F&SF's contents, including A Decade of Fantasy and Science Fiction and multiple numbered Best from Fantasy and Science Fiction volumes. After leaving editing in 1962, Mills became a literary agent, representing writers including James Baldwin and Harlan Ellison.
