Robert Reginald was the pen name of Michael Roy Burgess (1948-2013), an American bibliographer, librarian, publisher, and writer born in Fukuoka, Japan. In 1975 he founded the Borgo Press, which published several hundred titles of science fiction and fantasy scholarship, bibliography, and fiction, and he later taught at California State University, San Bernardino. As a reference scholar he compiled landmark works including Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature: A Checklist, 1700-1974 and the Reference Guide to Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror, earning the Pilgrim Award in 1993 for lifetime contributions to science fiction scholarship. As a novelist he wrote the War of Two Worlds trilogy, an unauthorized sequel to H. G. Wells, and the Nova Europa Fantasy Saga, an alternate-history fantasy sequence including The Hieromonk's Tale and The Hypatomancer's Tale.
