Rod Rees

Rod Rees (born 1948 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England) is a British science-fiction author who came to fiction after a career in accounting. He is best known for the Demi-Monde tetralogy — The Demi-Monde: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall — built around a highly detailed virtual-reality simulation run on an advanced quantum computer and used as a military training environment; the simulated world compresses recreated versions of historical cities into a steampunk setting populated by real-world historical tyrants, blending alternate history, psychohistory, and vampire mythology. The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction has described the setting as an intricate, tightly constructed world. Rees's fiction is notable for combining speculative technology with a large, colliding cast of historical and fantastical figures.
