b. 1960

Ryk Brown is an American author of self-published space opera, born in 1960 and raised, in his words, on "an overdose of television, NASA, and science fiction." Before turning to fiction, he worked as a cook, rock guitarist, stage lighting technician, and paramedic, and today splits his time between fixing computers by day and writing by night. He is best known for The Frontiers Saga, a long-running series following the exploration ship Aurora and its crew, which he has expanded across multiple sub-series including Rogue Castes, Fringe Worlds, Fall of the Core, and Astra Nullus. Brown's fiction reflects a lifelong fascination with space travel and adventure, built through steady, prolific self-publishing rather than traditional houses. He lives in Northern California with his wife, daughter, and cat.
