Sam Sykes, born Sam Watkins in 1988, is an American epic fantasy author and the son of novelist Diana Gabaldon. His debut trilogy, Aeons' Gate, comprising Tome of the Undergates, Black Halo, and The Skybound Sea, follows a mercenary crew of misfits across a world of demons and sea battles, earning notice for its irreverent dialogue and deconstruction of fantasy conventions. He continued in the same setting with the Bring Down Heaven trilogy, including Seven Blades in Black and Ten Arrows of Iron, and later launched The Grave of Empires series. Sykes has also contributed fiction to the Pathfinder Tales line, tied to the tabletop role-playing game. His work is known for blending violent action with sharp, self-aware humor within traditional sword-and-sorcery frameworks.
