Sarah Gailey

Sarah Gailey is an American, non-binary author of speculative fiction who grew up in Fremont, California, and now lives in Northern California. Their work moves fluidly across fantasy, science fiction, and mystery in novels, novellas, and comics, including the alternate-history American Hippo duology (River of Teeth, Taste of Marrow), which reimagines a real early-20th-century American proposal to farm hippopotamuses in Louisiana bayous; the magic-noir novel Magic for Liars; and the science-fiction thriller The Echo Wife. Gailey won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer in 2018 and the British Fantasy Award for Best Horror Novel for Just Like Home in 2023, alongside numerous further Hugo, Nebula, and Locus nominations. Their fiction and essays have appeared in The Atlantic, Tor.com, and Fireside Magazine.
