Sarah Raughley is a Canadian author who grew up in southern Ontario and holds a PhD in English, having taught at McMaster University and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Ottawa. Her academic work examines race, gender, and postcolonialism in popular media, themes that also inform her fiction. She writes young adult fantasy centered on, in her words, "freakish little girls with powers," drawing on manga, science-fiction and fantasy television, and Japanese role-playing games. She is best known for The Effigies series, opening with Fate of Flames (2016) and continuing through Legacy of Light (2018), which was nominated for the Aurora Award for Best Young Adult Novel, and for the fantasy novel The Bones of Ruin (2021), which began a further series.
