Scott G. Gier (born January 13, 1948, in Aiea, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii) is an American author of military science fiction. He is best known for the Genellan sequence, four novels published between 1995 and 2005 that begin with a catastrophic first-contact encounter between an expansionist humanity and a hostile alien race, the Ulaggi, before widening into a planetary-adventure story involving further alien species and marooned human survivors. The series comprises Genellan: Planetfall, Genellan: In the Shadow of the Moon, Genellan: First Victory, and Genellan: Earth Siege; the first two volumes were both Science Fiction Book Club selections. Beyond the Genellan books, Gier has also published the novel Daystar. His work sits within the tradition of military and first-contact science fiction, centered on large-scale interstellar conflict and the slow, hard-won cooperation between human and alien societies.
