Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Silvia Moreno-Garcia (born 1981) is a Mexican-Canadian writer, editor, and publisher, born in Baja California and based in Vancouver since relocating to Canada in 2004. She founded Innsmouth Free Press, a small press devoted to weird fiction, and holds a master's degree in science and technology studies from the University of British Columbia, with a thesis on eugenics in the work of H. P. Lovecraft. Her breakthrough novel, Mexican Gothic (2020), a horror novel set in a decaying colonial-era mansion in 1950s Mexico, won the British Fantasy Award for Best Horror Novel, the Aurora Award, and the Locus Award for Best Horror Novel. Her other novels include Gods of Jade and Shadow, a Jazz Age fantasy drawing on Maya mythology, and The Daughter of Doctor Moreau, a reimagining of H. G. Wells's novel. She also writes a books column for The Washington Post.
