Silvia Park is the author of Luminous (2025), a science fiction debut set in a reunified Korea. The novel follows three siblings, two human and one robotic, centering on an eleven-year-old disabled girl who befriends a strikingly lifelike robot boy, and uses their story to probe questions of consciousness, disability, and what separates humans from the machines built to resemble them. Park has said she first conceived the idea as a children's book, and has cited her father's academic writing on the film I, Robot as an influence. Luminous won the 2025 Otherwise Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Speculative Fiction, and was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the Locus Award for Best First Novel. A television adaptation is in development.
