Simon R. Green (born 1955) is a British author of fast-paced urban fantasy and space opera. He holds a degree in modern English and American literature from the University of Leicester, sold his first short story in 1976, and published his debut novel in 1979; an early highlight was his 1991 novelization of the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, a substantial commercial success. He is best known for the Nightside series, following a private investigator through a hidden, permanently midnight district of London where myth and magic collide with noir crime plotting, and for the related Secret Histories novels, centered on a family of spies and monster hunters. His earlier Deathstalker series is a sprawling space opera of interstellar empire and rebellion. Green's prolific output blends genre pastiche, dark humor, and pulp-inflected action across dozens of novels.
