Stella Gemmell is a British novelist and former journalist who came to fiction through her marriage to the fantasy writer David Gemmell. A former junior reporter and subeditor who had long been involved in her husband's creative process, she resolved to complete his unfinished final novel after his death in 2006, publishing Troy: Fall of Kings (2007) under joint authorship using his notes and chapter outline. She went on to write fiction of her own, beginning with The City (2013), a sprawling epic fantasy set within a single vast, ancient, war-ravaged metropolis defended for centuries against a tyrannical empire, and its sequel, The Immortal Throne (2016), following the city's survivors after its fall. Gemmell's work continues her late husband's tradition of gritty, morally complex battle-focused fantasy while developing its own voice around endurance, memory, and civic decay.
