Stephanie Burgis

Stephanie Burgis is an American fantasy writer born in 1977 in East Lansing, Michigan, now living in Wales. She holds an MA in historical musicology from the University of Pittsburgh and pursued doctoral research at the University of Leeds on opera and politics in eighteenth-century Vienna, research that shaped her adult novel Masks and Shadows. She attended the Clarion West writing workshop in 2001. Burgis is best known for the Improper Magick trilogy—A Most Improper Magick, A Tangle of Magicks, and A Reckless Magick—which won the inaugural Waverton Good Read Children's Award, and for the middle-grade fantasy The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart and its sequels. She has also written the adult Regency fantasy Snowspelled and Scales and Sensibility, blending historical settings with magic throughout her work.
