Stephen Baxter (born 1957) is an English science fiction author known for hard science fiction built on a rigorous grounding in physics and deep time. Trained in mathematics at Cambridge and engineering at Southampton, he taught before becoming a full-time writer in 1995. His major work is the Xeelee Sequence, a future history spanning from the origins of the universe to its far future, told across numerous novels and story collections including the Destiny's Children sequence. Baxter has written extensively in collaboration: with Arthur C. Clarke on the Time Odyssey trilogy (Time's Eye, Sunstorm, Firstborn) and The Light of Other Days, and with Terry Pratchett on the five-novel Long Earth series. His many other works include the alternate-history Time's Tapestry sequence and standalone novels such as Voyage and Titan. He has won multiple Philip K. Dick and British Science Fiction Awards, the John W. Campbell Memorial Award, and Germany's Kurd Lasswitz Prize.
