Stephen Molstad is an American novelist and screenwriter, born in 1960 in Los Angeles, known for tie-in novelizations of blockbuster science-fiction films. He wrote the novelization of Roland Emmerich's Independence Day, published shortly before the film's 1996 release to help promote it, and followed it with two original sequel novels set in the same continuity, Independence Day: Silent Zone and Independence Day: War in the Desert, later collected in an omnibus edition. He also novelized the science-fiction adventure Stargate (1994) and the 1998 American Godzilla remake. His tie-in fiction typically expanded on a film's story with material beyond what reached the screen, a common practice for major studio releases aimed at giving fans additional narrative depth around theatrical blockbusters.
