Steven Mohan, Jr.

Steven Mohan, Jr. (1967–2024) was an American science fiction author and former U.S. Navy officer, born in Ellensburg, Washington, and educated at Northwestern University. After four years of naval service, he turned to writing military science fiction, debuting with the story 'Conservator.' Mohan became a familiar contributor to shared game-fiction universes, authoring the BattleTech novels A Bonfire of Worlds and Isle of the Blessed for Catalyst Game Labs, alongside shorter fiction set in the Shadowrun, MechWarrior: Dark Age, and Master of Orion universes. His novella The Sufferance of Shark Gods extended his reach into original space opera. Mohan's fiction was known for grounding large-scale mecha and space combat in the practical detail of a working military career, and he continued publishing steadily in tie-in and anthology markets until his death in 2024.
