Susan R. Matthews

Susan R. Matthews (born 1952) is an American science fiction writer who served in the U.S. Army and later worked as an auditor for Boeing before publishing fiction full-time. She is best known for the Under Jurisdiction series, a dystopian space opera following ship's surgeon and reluctant state torturer Andrej Koscuisko across eight novels beginning with An Exchange of Hostages, which was nominated for the Philip K. Dick Award, and continuing through Prisoner of Conscience, Hour of Judgment, and Colony Fleet. Matthews was also a finalist for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. Under the pen name Zarabeth Abbey she has additionally written the fantasy series The High Pamir.
