Susan Shwartz

Susan Shwartz is an American science fiction, fantasy, and historical novelist born in 1949 in Youngstown, Ohio, who holds a PhD in English from Harvard. Prolific and wide-ranging, she is best known in the catalog for the Vulcan's Soul Star Trek trilogy, co-written with Josepha Sherman, and for Heirs to Byzantium, an alternate-history series imagining a world where Marc Antony defeated Octavian and the Roman Empire's center of gravity shifted East. She has also written extensively in shared universes, contributing to Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover anthologies, the War World series set in Jerry Pournelle's CoDominium universe, and the Ithkar anthologies she co-edited with Andre Norton, with whom she also co-wrote Empire of the Eagle. Shwartz has been nominated multiple times for the Hugo and Nebula Awards and won the HOMer Award and San Francisco Chronicle Award for her short fiction.
