Suzanne Johnson

Suzanne Johnson is an American author of urban fantasy, born in 1956 in Winfield, Alabama. She is known for the Sentinels of New Orleans series, which follows Drusilla Jaco, a wizard tasked by a magical government agency with policing the boundary between New Orleans and the supernatural world, beginning with Royal Street. The series continues through River Road, Elysian Fields, Pirate's Alley, Pirateship Down, Belle Chasse, and Frenchman Street, drawing on New Orleans history and folklore, including its pirate lore, to build a magical version of the city recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Johnson has also written short fiction in the same paranormal noir vein, contributing to genre anthologies. Her work is distinguished by its detailed sense of place and its grounding of urban fantasy conflict in real regional history.
