Terence Blacker

Terence Blacker is an English novelist, children's author, and columnist, born in 1948 near Hadleigh, Suffolk. After reading English at Trinity College, Cambridge, he worked for a decade in publishing, where he oversaw the British editions of Jerzy Kosinski's novels, before becoming a full-time writer in 1983. His first adult novel, Fixx, was praised by The Guardian as a "tour de force," and he has since written adult satire alongside a substantial body of fiction for younger readers, including The Angel Factory, about a boy who discovers his family are alien infiltrators, The Transfer, and the rat's-eye fantasy The Twyning. Blacker has also had a long parallel career in journalism, writing the "Harvey Porlock" literary column for The Sunday Times and a regular column for The Independent for nearly sixteen years. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2017.
