Tessa Gratton

Tessa Gratton is an American author of fantasy and young-adult fiction, born in 1980 in Okinawa, Japan. She first drew attention with Blood Magic and its companion United States of Asgard novels, which reimagine a Norse-mythology-infused version of America built around blood-based magic. Her Innis Lear books, including The Queens of Innis Lear and Lady Hotspur, offer a queer, mythic retelling of Shakespearean tragedy in an invented world, while Tremontaine, written collaboratively as a serialized prequel to Ellen Kushner's Riverside novels, shows her range for shared-world fiction. She has also contributed young-adult novels to Star Wars' High Republic line. Gratton's work consistently favors richly mythic worldbuilding fused with queer and feminist reimaginings of classic story structures.
