Thomas Hoobler

Thomas Hoobler (June 12, 1942 - February 22, 2025) was an American author born in Cincinnati, Ohio, who studied English at the University of Notre Dame and attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop. With his wife and writing partner, Dorothy Hoobler, he co-authored more than a hundred books across fiction, history, and reference, including the American Family Album series for Oxford University Press. Together they were best known for the Samurai Detective mystery series, following ronin investigator Seikei through Edo-period Japan in novels such as The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn and In Darkness, Death, and for The Hunters, an earlier collaboration with Burt Wetanson. Hoobler continued writing into his final years, publishing the historical letters collection Are You Prepared for the Storm of Love Making? in 2024.
