Tim Akers, full name John Timothy Akers, is an American speculative fiction author born in 1972 in rural Buncombe County, North Carolina, the son of a theologian; he later relocated to the Chicago area, where he still lives. Active in short and long fiction since 2004, with stories in Clarkesworld, Strange Horizons, and Apex Magazine, he writes fantasy that frequently blends magic with steam-and-clockwork technology. He is best known for the Veridon novels (Heart of Veridon, Dead of Veridon), collected as the Burn Cycle, and for The Hallowed War trilogy, beginning with The Pagan Night, which received a preliminary nomination for the David Gemmell Award for Fantasy. His more recent work includes the urban fantasy Knight Watch series and the Spiritbinder Saga, launched with Wraithbound.
