Tobias S. Buckell is a science fiction and fantasy author born in 1979 in Grenada, whose Caribbean upbringing informs much of his fiction. He is best known for the Xenowealth series, beginning with Crystal Rain (2006), a postcolonial space-opera saga blending steampunk and Caribbean culture, and for tie-in novels set in the Halo universe, including the New York Times bestseller The Cole Protocol (2008). His other works include the near-future thrillers Arctic Rising and Hurricane Fever and, with Paolo Bacigalupi, the collaborative novel The Tangled Lands, which won the World Fantasy Award in 2019. Buckell won the Writers of the Future award in 2000 and has been a finalist for the Nebula, Prometheus, and Locus Awards. He has served as vice president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association and teaches creative writing.
