Toby Forward is a British author born in 1950 in Coventry, best known for the Flaxfield Quartet, a children's fantasy sequence comprising Dragonborn, Fireborn, Doubleborn, and Starborn. Editions of the series have been illustrated by Jim Kay, later celebrated for his illustrated editions of the Harry Potter novels. Before turning to children's fantasy, Forward published adult fiction and poetry, including Feminine Parts and Travelling Backwards. His later work continued to focus on fantasy and adventure fiction for younger readers, building on the wave of British children's fantasy that followed in the wake of Harry Potter's popularity.
