V. Castro

V. Castro is a horror author who grew up in Texas, drawing on the urban legends of her childhood there for much of her fiction. Her debut novel, The Queen of the Cicadas (2021), is a horror story set across two timelines in Texas and Mexico, following a mysterious death on a farm in 1952 and a present-day investigation that awakens a vengeful folk goddess connected to Mexican and Chicana folklore; reviewers praised its treatment of migrant labor history and colonialism. Castro has continued to write horror rooted in Mexican and Chicana mythology and folk belief, and has also contributed licensed fiction to major horror franchises, including novels set in the Alien universe and The Stand.
