Valjeanne Jeffers

Valjeanne Jeffers (1967–2022) was an American author working in Afrofuturism, steampunk, and erotic science fiction and fantasy. Her signature work is the Immortal series, a time-spanning saga of magic, war, and shapeshifting spanning Immortal through Immortal IV: Collision of Worlds, alongside the related Scierogenous novels and anthologies of erotic speculative fiction she edited. She also wrote the urban fantasy Switch series and the Mona Livelong: Paranormal Detective mysteries, blending noir-style investigation with supernatural elements. Jeffers's fiction consistently centered Black protagonists across dystopian futures, alternate histories, and steampunk-inflected settings, placing her among the writers associated with Black speculative fiction. She continued publishing across these series until her death in 2022.
