Yume Kitasei is a Japanese American writer of speculative fiction based in Brooklyn, New York. She is the author of three novels: The Deep Sky, a locked-room mystery aboard a generation ship bound for a new planet; The Stardust Grail, which follows a retired space archaeologist drawn back for one last mission; and Saltcrop. Her short fiction has appeared in literary and genre publications including New England Review, Catapult, SmokeLong Quarterly, Baltimore Review, and Nashville Review. Kitasei's novels blend the tension and structure of mystery and heist fiction with science-fiction premises of space travel and ecological collapse, and have drawn attention for centering Japanese-American and multicultural perspectives within the genre.
