Zoë Marriott

Zoë Marriott is a British author of young-adult fantasy born in 1982 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, known for fairy-tale retellings steeped in fantasy world-building. Her debut, The Swan Kingdom (2007), reworks "The Six Swans" into an English-set fantasy, followed by Daughter of the Flames and the China-inspired Shadows on the Moon, a retelling of Cinderella. She is also known for The Name of the Blade trilogy, beginning with The Night Itself, which blends contemporary London with Japanese mythology and yokai folklore, and the Viking-influenced Barefoot on the Wind and FrostFire, part of her Moonlit Lands sequence. Marriott's fiction is distinguished by drawing on non-Western folklore and history for feminist reworkings of familiar fairy-tale structures, and her novels have been translated into multiple languages.
