From the front flap of the Berkley HB first edition: "There are places in the world where darkness rules, where it's unwise to walk. Sunshine knew that. But there hadn't been any trouble out at the lake for years, and she needed a place to be alone for a while. Unfortunately, she wasn't alone. She never heard them coming. Of course you don't, when they're vampires. They took her clothes and sneakers. They dressed her in a long red gown. And they shackled her to the wall of an abandoned mansion - within easy reach of a figure stirring in the moonlight. She knows that he is a vampire. She knows that she's to be his dinner, and that when he is finished with her, she will be dead. Yet, as dawn breaks, she finds that he has not attempted to harm her. And now it is he who needs her to help him survive the day..."

● "Vampires are real. They lack fangs but not the thirst. These vampires suffer from a disease and need to ingest blood to survive. They gain super strength, healing and longevity by ingesting blood. After surviving an unexpected and bloody encounter at a truck stop, two young women continue with college and training in boxing and martial arts to prepare themselves to hunt vampires. Tracking down and eliminating vampires proves more difficult than expected, as the bloodsuckers are not behaving the way these women were taught. Facing vampires that have evolved to utilize technology and work together, both girls realize they each have life-changing or ending secrets that will destroy the friendship they have cultivated." ― paraphrased from this book's product page on Amazon.com as of 2024-04-21.

Mark Davidson prowls the city by night armed with crosses and holy water, in search of vampires, whose existence, he insists, is real. He is as irresistibly drawn to Lauren as she is to him, and not only because she's the image of his murdered fiancee. But Mark's frightening obsession with finding his lover's killer merely hides a bitter vendetta that cuts deeper than grief over a lost love. As Lauren wrestles with desire and disbelief, sinister shadows lengthen over New Orleans, threatening her friends and foretelling a battle that may spell the end of the city's uneasy truce between the living and the undead.
