The Deptford Mice trilogy opens with The Dark Portal, following a young mouse named Audrey Brown and her friends as they fight Jupiter, the malevolent god the sewer rats of Deptford worship, in a dark fantasy pitched well past typical talking-animal fare. Robin Jarvis completed the trilogy with The Crystal Prison and The Final Reckoning within a year of the first book. The series has been continuously reissued since, most recently by Pushkin Children's Books from 2024 with new covers and illustrations.
