Frostborn
Jonathan Moeller · 6 series · 38 novels · 5 novellas · 17 novelettes · 10 short stories · 4 collections · 2013–2021
When the blue fire burns in the northern sky, the old omen wakes: the Frostborn are returning, and the realm of Andomhaim has forgotten how to fight them. This is the world of Ridmark Arban, called the Gray Knight — a disgraced Swordbearer stripped of soulblade and honor, walking the wild marches in search of the truth behind the omen while lords quarrel and an ancient enemy of ice and hunger marshals at the edge of the map. Andomhaim itself is a kingdom of exiles, its founders having fled a doomed Britain through a magic gate to raise a new realm of High King, Swordbearers, and Magistri mages on a continent that does not want them. The world is the work of one hand — Jonathan Moeller — but it spreads across many linked cycles in the brisk, chapter-a-cliffhanger pulp tradition. Frostborn is the founding run and the spine of it all; Sevenfold Sword carries Ridmark and the amnesiac mage Calliande south into the sun-scorched realm of Owyllain, Dragontiarna widens the war across worlds, and Shield Knight presses the saga onward, with the World of the Frostborn and Tales of the Frostborn companions filling the corners. What holds it together is momentum: clean quest lines, soulblades and dark magic, orc warbands and spider-demons, and a redemption story that keeps its stakes plain even as the map grows. Voice serves speed here, not ornament. Begin at the beginning — Frostborn: The Gray Knight — and read the cycles in order (Frostborn, then Sevenfold Sword, Dragontiarna, Shield Knight); the earlier books teach you everything the later wars assume.
