Joe R. Lansdale's Hap and Leonard novels follow two working-class East Texas friends, Hap, a straight white ex-activist, and Leonard, a gay Black Vietnam veteran, who keep getting pulled from odd jobs into local crime they can't leave alone, beginning with Savage Season. The long-running series mixes hardboiled crime plotting with the two leads' running banter and loyalty to each other. Other contributors have added short pieces to the same continuity over the years.
