Lovecraft Country
Matt Ruff · 2 novels · 2016–2023
Matt Ruff's Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Turner, a Black Korean War veteran and science-fiction fan, and his extended family as they navigate both cosmic horror and the everyday terror of Jim Crow-era America in the 1950s. Structured as eight interlinked stories rather than one continuous plot, it moves between sorcerous lodges, haunted houses, and cursed heirlooms, all set in motion by the manipulative occultist Caleb Braithwhite. A 2023 sequel novel, The Destroyer of Worlds, returns to the same characters.
