In Equestria, the sun and moon rise because princesses lift them, and the strongest magic in all the land is friendship. This is the world of the ponies — earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns sharing a green country of orchards, cloud-cities, and crystal towers, watched over by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna and kept safe, again and again, by six friends in the little town of Ponyville: Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity. Every pony earns a cutie mark for the thing she does best, and every adventure, however small, comes home to the same truth — that nopony faces trouble alone. The books gather the many corners of that world. G. M. Berrow anchors the shelf with chapter books and the Ponyville Mysteries, and leads the Beyond Equestria novels, which send each of the Mane Six on a solo journey past the edges of the map. Alongside them stand the Equestria Girls stories, where the same friends live human lives at Canterlot High; early readers and The Princess Collection for the youngest fans; and tie-ins to My Little Pony: The Movie, shaped by hands including Perdita Finn, Michael Vogel, and Nicole Dubuc. It is an episodic, many-authored world that grows outward rather than forward. Read it for its brightness and its sincerity — gentle stakes, generous hearts, and stories that trust a young reader to care about honesty, kindness, and keeping a promise. There is no ladder to climb; nearly every book stands on its own. Newcomers can meet the ponies in any character chapter book, set off on the solo quests with Beyond Equestria's Twilight Sparkle, or step sideways into Equestria Girls for the high-school telling of the same friendships.

Reading order

53 works not in this order

Only the Equestria Girls spin-off follows an actual story across its films, with three original chapter books filling the gaps between them where the books themselves place them. After Legend of Everfree the 2017-2018 Equestria Girls chapter books are stand-alone adventures with the same cast and can be read in any order. The rest of the My Little Pony library is stand-alone one-off adventures with no ongoing story, so it isn't part of this route.
